Everyone got up early at 5:15 and went to the 5:45 Easter Sunrise Service on the beach by the graveyard. All worshippers shared a somewhat unusual breakfast of chicken stew at the church Fellowship Hall afterward, where we saw several residents we have gotten to know.
After breakfast we changed clothes at the cottage and headed the boat north to Great Guana Cay for the festivities at Nippers. It was a windy day and somewhat rough ride, but we tied up at the dock beside many other boats, and joined the crowd at Nippers. The surf was relatively calm, because it was on the lee side of the island that day. A pretty ketch was anchored just offshore, and everyone was gathered, ready to junt for Easter eggs on the reef just off the beach. At the signal, scores of snorkelers hit the water, and it was quite a sight to see, splashing and diving over a large area. Two years ago we found several eggs, but this year we got skunked, but had fun anyway.
After the egg hunt Debby and Bruce joined the buffet line for the pig roast, while Lisa and Michael ordered cheeseburgers. Bought some T-shirts, listened to Stone McEwan, and snorkeled a little more. One group in a rental boat had maneuvered close to shore, got caught by the surf and flipped upside down. Though nobody appeared to be hurt, the bimini top was torn off, and when they finally got the boat righted they could not start the motor. Not a good start to a vacation.
Back to MOW about 4:00, where we vegged out awhile, then made sandwiches for dinner. Walked to Island Treats for ice cream, Michael's first since giving it up for Lent, and back to the cottage, where we read ahile before going to bed. One of the best things about vacationing here is the lack of TV, stereo, etc. We always get a chance to read some good books, play card games and catch up on sleep we don't seem to get enough of back in the real world.
