Help, arriving 4/9, staying at Windward House and can not locate a map. Most I can find is 2.5 miles from town.....other direction from airport.....on Eastern Shore road...will I be able to find this house??

Should I rent a car or a boat?? How about a small sail boat??? which is better??

Eastern Shore is kind of the end of the road in Marsh Harbour. You won't have any trouble. Get a cab to the house, and then get your car or boat. Cabbies all know where the houses are.

You should decide what you want and reserve it. I'm a boater, so couldn't be without a boat, but some want to explore on land. Pretty much your choice. Relax. Things will become clear. Have fun.

Just tell any taxi driver that you want to go to Windward house on Eastern Shores and they will take you there. It's a small place, you won't need a map. Get the Cruising Guide to Abaco by Steve Dodge from White Sound Press. It has all kinds of maps and descriptions of things to do in Abaco. It will help you prepare for your trip, including driving to places.

I think the place you are staying has a private boat dock. If you are boaters, this is a great base to explore the other islands from. As far as renting a car, you might consider doing that anyway, since it's about a 2 mile trek each way from your house to town. You will either have to walk, drive, or take cabs to and from there to restaurants /shopping/etc.

I don't know about renting sailboats. I've never heard of that being available. There are several good power boat rental companies. Here are a couple:

Take a taxi, rent a boat, got it! First time snorkeling and taking my 85 year old Mom....last year she rode horses at a dude ranch for 7 days so she is up to it....but has been taking swiming lessons for the last six months to get ready. Where would be a real easy place to go first time where she could see some interesting stuff?

If you haven't rented a car yet I suggest you do it soon.

Your mom will love mermaid reef, just down the road on Pelican Shores-or take her up to Nippers, where the reef is walkable from the beach. Right out in front of Windward house there is lovely swimming, and there are fish everywhere--Windward house has a dock where just dangling your feet and watching the fish can become a habit.
