I have received a number of emails from folk who can not get information on the state of their boats in various places in the Abacos.

Please allow us to use this board to gather what we know in one place for all to read, and add to it where possible.

To Kick it off, here is a message I did for club members in South Africa who have no info on their boat stored in MH Boat Yard. I was able to give a little info but there is a lot of detail I do not know. I also did a quick info dump on any members whose circumstances I had heard about. Please help to correct any inaccuracies.

If there is anyone out there who can fill in more specifics, please do.

I have no hard info to offer re your boat but I did see a posting from
son Craig on the Abaco Community Message Board and put him in touch
with Dave Bluto who has come thru the storm well. His Vonage phone
should be working now according to the ACMB. His number is (561) 202
8424 or (704)791 3882. Dave could our main hope for specific club member damage reports in the MH area.
The MH boat yard does have damaged boats, some fell off their stands in
the wind and some were washed off. Faces East and that is where the
blow came from.
Craig may well have more info for you now.

The boat situation is not all clear but it has some hope to it since the
storm was loooooong but not as strong as Floyd.

Lots sunk and on the rocks in White Sound, a few sunk in Black Sound
GTC, not sure if any fell over at AYS in GTC, Doug and Roberta were
waiting for news there (Northern Sun). MOW mainly ok and Hopetown also.
MH main Harbour not sure some have sunk, Jib Room very little
damage
Possibly more on the other side of the harbour (Harbour View, Conch Inn, Port of Call, Mangos ) but no specific postings yet.
Did hear that members Pat and Ray
survived they have the Boat Motel at Port of Call.
Dave and Barb are well and Chablis with Elegant One in dock 6 at Boat Harbour Marina did well, only slight damage cosmetic.

The boats on the hard over in Marsh Harbour Boat yard did not so well
Fennders and OHenry took a hit from a falling sailboat John and Mary's
boat Leonore I think, other boats fell off their jackstands too and some
were washed off.
The hard is very low lying and the blow came from the East so the worst
on all counts.

Over in Florida Best of Times did ok I think but a bad place
close to where the eye hit, LoKee is good and both of Steve/Carolyn's
boats SLACK Outfit survived without damage.
Brian and Cinci on My Therapy are growng web feet but otherwise good.
Snug has no damage in Palatka.
Copout is fine up the river near Indian Town I think."

Just for clarification...John and Mary's boat, "Leonore" was on the hard in Harbortown in Ft. Pierce and unfortunately has gone over. They are waiting for pics and more news

Jane,
Thanks for the correction and clarification of John and Mary's boat situation.
Short tel calls, cryptic emails and old brains do make for inaccuracies.

We are sorry to hear that news. Hope the detail on the extent of the damage comes available soonest. The waiting and the uncertainty is the worst.

Fennders and O'Henry made out fine at the shipyard. sailboat mast came down but did little damage to the referenced boats. Some scratches and rips but all things considered, all is ok. both O'Henry and Fennders were put up early (March & April) and were in the back of the yard.
I'll be going down to check on everything, after Ivan

No longer our boat, but wondered how Salty Seven came through. She was one of three who survived Floyd unscathed and curious as to how the old gal managed this time. Doreen

What a terrible tragedy. Puts Frances in some kind of perspective.

Hi everyone
This is to explain to you all what has happened in Grenada. I'm sure that
by
now most of you know that Hurricane Ivan made a direct hit on Grenada on
Tuesday. All communication was down so it took until today to get to the
TV
news but more fortunately for us our friends have been emailing us with
continual updates from a sophisticated satellite system. As Ivan's eye
passed over the island it accelerated and became category 4 with
sustained
winds of 135-140 for 2 hours, repeated when the wind turned to the other
direction. The result is that 90% of the island has been totally
destroyed.
Concrete houses are rubble, the P M's included, wooden houses
disappeared.
As for the boating fraternity, it has been devastated. Our marina is no
more. Boats are smashed into the mangroves, piled on top of one another
or
on the shore. By some miracle Winterlude survived and is one of the very
few
still afloat. She has lost her dingy and the dingy lift is trashed. The
bow
sprit is badly damaged and some rub rail. Otherwise she is ok and the
marina
has made her safe. This is truly a miracle as there are no boats either
side
of her or behind her. They are all smashed up or have been thrown ashore.
Indeed the dock broke apart just past Winterlude taking at least 6 boats
with it.
Our friends' boat is another miracle as it is extremely large 60ftx30ft
and
was tied up in the mangroves behind Winterlude. There are piles of boats
thrown either side of her but she remains untouched. These are the ones
sending news out including horrific pictures which I am unable to forward
from Hotmail.
Our close friends Pam and Chas are still up north and we have no news of
them as yet. All roads are impassable. Their boat however is on the rocks
with a hole in its port side. All boats which were on mooring buoys are
either sunk or in the mangroves. In one boatyard where the boats were
stored
on the hard, out of 163 boats only 2 catamarans are standing. All the
monohulls have fallen over and are mostly trashed. In the hurricane hole
of
Egmont there are 2 piles of boats....and the horror stories go on.
So far reports of loss of life are 20 but there may be more.
We are totally devastated especially for the lovely people of Grenada and
the beautiful island which is no more. We have no idea about our land and
the foundations which were built but they pale into insignificance in the
larger scale of things.
Sorry I'm not writing happier news.
Love Carol [David is away sailing in France]
Lesley please forward to usual although I have sent to some. Thanks.
Just thought you would like to know our friends were in the U.K. and
their boat miracle though it was survived. Pamxx

As best we know all ofthe boats have come thru OK in Daytona that are at the Halifax Harbor. During Frances part of the Daytona Bota works collapsed as did the back half of the Boat Tree Building.

Regards and our prayers are with all

I had read that Leonore went over in Francis, as did Voyager. But has Leonore already heard that they went over again in Jeanne? If so, please have them E mail me. I's like to know their source so I could get a report about Voyager. thanks. Hard times for us all, sad. capran@yahoo.com or call 509 4662706
