My fiance and I are thinking of renting on Green Turtle Cay next June after we are married. Has anyone rented the tranquility house on green turtle? What is it like? Is there anywhere close to keep a rental boat for a week?

I had stayed at Hope Town, Man O'War, Guana a number of times and thought I'd try Green Turtle about a year and a half ago. Been there....done that.....but it just did nothing for me compared with the other areas. From Marsh Harbour you have such a variety of people, places, things to do in Hope Town/Man O'War/Guana and all areas nearby. Green Turtle just doesn't have that much variety to offer in my opinion.

We stayed in Tranquility last July. It is a great house. It is very fresh and new inside, furnished nicely. The view from the upstairs master bath is gorgeous. The house has a great full kitchen. It sits on Bita Bay beach which is one of my favorite on GTC. The house sits on a nice sandy beach, but the water immediately in front of the house is rocky (interesting for snorkeling and exploring for little critters that get caught in the tide pools at low tide). You can walk just a few steps down the beach, where it is sandy, to enter the water. It is fun to snorkel on the rocky reef immediately in front of Bita Bay house. There were two kayaks that were available with the house when we were there which were fun to use. At Tranquility, you are on a secluded beach and about equal distance between the Green Turtle Club area and the settlement. You will need a golf cart for getting around. There is a dock available for your use on Black Sound if you rent a boat. I have a lot of photos of the house that I could try to post for you.

In response to mudpuppy, it is indeed your opinion. Green Turtle Cay is our favorite cay for exactly the reasons you cite for it being your least favorite. It is not in the hub of activity. You can get to the hub by boat if you wish, but if that is what you want, it would not be recommended to stay on GTC. There is plenty to do on GTC if you enjoy quiet beaches, a quaint historic settlement, and good restaurants to satisfy all budgets. While I suggest anyone looking for wild bars and partying to not come to the Abacos, there is still some nightlife on GTC. Go to the Green Turtle Club on a Wed. night to hear the "#1 band in the nation", the Gully Roosters play on their outside terrace. Enjoy a beautiful sunset at the Sundowners or Pineapples. Go to Miss Emily's Blue Bee, the home of the Goombay Smash. Get ice cream from MacIntoshes or Sawyers. In my opinion, GTC would be the perfect get away for a honeymooning couple.

In this photo, I am standing on the little island in Bita Bay, taking a photo back towards the shore (those are two of my daughters using one of the kayaks that were available at Tranquility). The house in the center in the background is Tranquility, the one to the right is Bita Bay house.

In my first post, I said that the view from the upstairs master bath at Tranquility is gorgeous. There is not view from the master bath -- I meant to say balcony. Tried to post a photo of the view last night, but my photo was too large. Will try to adjust size and post this evening.
