Hi All, I realize now most of the info I was looking for in my question about Wireless Internet HotSpots was in the post starting the thread and at this website <http://69.5.2.252/aws/index.shtml>. This is case of "I thought I knew more than I did!" I didn't even know that Cocotels Wireless service was the same as Abacom Wireless Services. I thought they were competitors.
In my defense I think there was a time when wireless access was free at certain establishments for tourists for short time use. Also I am a Mac user who has had the privilege of free wireless internet at home and at work for long time. So walking around and being online just about anywhere is what I'm used to. And strangely enough when I arrived at the Green Turtle Club and opened my computer to find I was online seemed to be as it should be. I didn't know I was getting it from the house across the street. I found out later when I started bragging to my neighbor about how cool it was. Fortunately we are still friends (I think)! Even then I still thought I should be able to get it at Bluff House and when I couldn't I just thought the system was not completely back to normal since the Hurricanes! So on my next trip I will follow the instructions at the above webpage!
Sorry Sinclair,
Susan
Hi Sinclair, first I want to thank you for all the work you have done getting so many Abaconians back online since the hurricanes. What an amazing job you have done! Also, I'm not sure if this is a work in progress, but is there list of hotspots and a proper protocol for accessing these. Does one walk in with a hopefully properly outfitted computer, order a libation, sit down, boot up and go for it, or does one ask permission etc.?
I appreciate advice on this!
[QUOTE=TurtleDreams]Hi All, Sorry if I was not clear about the wireless system I was interested in. Is there still a tourist accessible Abaco Wireless Internet Access System (cocotels?)? It was my understanding that before hurricanes Frances and Jeanne that there were many commercial locations (Nippers for one, Bluff House on GTC another) where tourist can come with a properly equipped laptop and send/receive email. Is this system still available? Is there a proper protocol for using the system? Is it free with patronage or can one pay a fee for use over a 1-2 week visit period? Is there a list of current and soon to be hotspots? How does one access these ( i.e. 'Does one walk in with a hopefully properly outfitted computer, order a libation, sit down, boot up and go for it, or does one ask permission etc.')?
Thanks!
Susan
