Saving Downed Palms

For those of you at the scene or going over to help in the cleanup, our contractor on GTC told us (after Floyd) that many downed palms, particularly thatch palm, can be saved by standing them back up and giving them some support until they have the time to re-establish themselves. I'm not sure how many other tropical trees can be saved this way. You might want to check with knowledgeable local residents. Also you might take this opportunity to remove any of those non-native invasive species such as Casuarina pines (Australian Pine)
