Hello, what does an American need that has never traveled outside of the states to clear customs in Abaco? Thank you.

Photo ID and birth certificate with raised seal will do, if you don't have a passport.

If you have time to apply for a passport before your trip, I would do it. Passports are so much easier! Some people think they are too expensive but considering they are good for 10 years, sounds like a deal to me for less stressful travel.

LOL!! Yes, it is a subject that will NEVER die!!
Yes here we go again. My passport will expire this year and I dread the renewal process. Has anyone renewed recently? Any pitfalls I can avoid?

I renewed about a year ago at a one-stop passport place I found in the yellow pages. It was a piece of cake! They take a picture, handle all the paperwork and send it off for you. Bring your old passport with you, as it needs to accompany the renewal. It will be returned with the new one. The only pitfall to avoid is don't delay. Get it done before the summer rush and it will be returned in a few weeks.

Go to Everyone Asks About (http://www.************/Askdex.html) and scroll down to "Passports."

First, passports are for immigration, not customs. Customs deals with goods brought into the country, and determines if they are illicit or dutiable.
Get a passport. It's easy. It costs what it costs. You can do it on your own, or use an angency or service that does all the paperwork and mailing for you. If you want to use a service, just go to any search engine on your computer and type in "passports".
This is a link that explains how to do it yourself.

My "Guide to the Bahamas" says I need an "International Maritime Declaration of Health...in duplicate". My friends who have been to the Bahamas say they never heard of such a form, as did my doctor.
Whassup?

As far as renewals go, it was simple and prompt. Simply go on line, fill out and print the application, have the photos ready, a check and follow the instructions. Took about three weeks. You could pay $50 extra to hurry the process or in out case we could have gone to Philadelphia.
and again

Peach,
At LEAST he knows he will be outside of the USA!! I've heard stories (yes, plural) of people becoming irate with immigration officials for thinking The Bahamas weren't part of the US!!!! LOL!!

This is a form that Customs/Immigration may (or may not) give you to fill out when you clear into the Bahamas. It's a simple declaration by the ships Master that the passengers or crew aboard do not (or do) have certain symptoms of illness. Don't worry about it.
You can find the forms here and download and print them
